This is a 54-year-old woman living in Tucson, Arizona who had undergone a gastric bypass and had lost over 100 pounds. She was approximately 6 years out from her gastric bypass surgery and her weight had stabilized, and she has not had any fluctuations in her weight. She was interested in body contouring of her abdomen to get rid of the excess skin that was present as a result of her weight loss.She had a significant amount of excess skin, which is typical after a greater than 100 pound weight loss. During her consultation I explained she was a great candidate for a tummy tuck with liposuction. I explained that liposuction would help improve the contours of her flanks and upper abdomen, and the tummy tuck would remove her redundant skin and also plicate, or tighten, her rectus abdominus muscles. Once we knew she was optimized for surgery we were ready to proceed with her surgery. Her tummy tuck and liposuction were performed at an outpatient surgery center in Tucson, Arizona. I started her surgery by liposuctioning her upper abdomen and flanks. After that was completed I performed the tummy tuck portion of the surgery where her abdominal muscles were tightened and her excess skin was removed. Her recovery was uneventful.
