This is a 37 year old mother of two and a yoga instructor who came to our office and was interested in a tummy tuck. She had weakness of her abdominal muscles and felt that her excess skin made it difficult to demonstrate the different yoga poses. On her physical exam she did have excess abdominal skin which is typical for women who have had children. She also had a sizable rectus diastasis which is separation of the abdominal wall muscles. During pregnancy as the uterus grows the body needs to accommodate the increasing size of the uterus and it does so by pushing the abdominal muscles further apart. I felt she was a good candidate for a tummy tuck and liposuction. Her tummy tuck and liposuction was performed at an outpatient surgery center in Tucson, Arizona. Liposuction was performed to help contour her abdomen and flanks. After her liposuction the excess skin was removed. Her abdominal muscles were tightened by using sutures and this helped give her a flat and firm abdomen. In order to decrease her postoperative pain I injected Exparel into her abdominal muscles. Exparel is a long acting local anesthetic which helps decrease the postoperative pain and need for pain medication. After surgery she did well in the recovery room and was discharged to home.
