Otoplasty Case #9
This patient is a 25 year old woman that had come to our office in Tucson, Arizona because she was unhappy with the prominent appearance of her ears. She was interested in an otoplasty or correction of prominent ears. From an early age she had always felt that her ears stuck out too far from the side of her head. As a result of being self-conscious about her ears she has always wore her hair down to cover her ears. In our consultation I felt that she was good candidate for an otoplasty. Her otoplasty was performed at an outpatient surgery center in Tucson, Arizona. Her surgery was done through a posterior approach so there were no visible scars on the ear. Removal of ear cartilage and sutures were used during her otoplasty to control the shape of her new ears. She went home the same day as surgery and her pain was controlled with oral pain medications. Her postoperative recovery was uneventful. She no longer is self-conscious about the appearance of her ears and she now wears her hair up all the time. She has been very happy with her results and is pictured here six months after her surgery.
