This is a 45 year old woman from Tucson, Arizona that came to our office interested in a breast reduction. She had been having back, neck, and shoulder pain as the result of her large breast. She was also having frequent rashes in the folds of her breast. She was a G cup bra, but had always found it difficult to find bras that fit well. She also noted that while both breasts were large her right breast was much larger than her left. All of her previous mammograms had been normal and she did not have a family history of breast cancer. She was looking to be around a D cup that would be more proportional with the rest of her frame. In her initial consultation after examining her we talked about what a breast reduction would involve. I explained due to the size of her breast she would be a good candidate for a Wise pattern breast reduction or the anchor technique. I explained that the advantage of the Wise pattern breast reduction is that allows us to remove a large amount of breast tissue and at the same time correct for her ptosis (sagging) of her breast. I explained that there are different ways to preserve the blood supply to her nipple areola complex. I explained that in her case I felt she was a good candidate for a medial pedicle. The advantage of the medial pedicle is that you are able to maintain the medial fullness of the breast. Her surgery was performed as an outpatient. Her recovery was uneventful. She is no longer experiencing any back, neck, or shoulder pain and is wearing a D cup bra. She is one year out from her surgery and loves the way her breasts look and feel.
