  • Breast Augmentation

This is a 24 year old woman from Tucson, Arizona who came to Rao Plastic Surgery because she was interested in a breast augmentation. She was an A cup and was hoping to be a C or a D cup. She had not had any prior breast problems, she did not have any family history of breast cancer, and she had not ever breastfed. At her initial consultation on physical exam she did not have any masses and she did not have any sagging of her breasts.  After taking measurements of her breast, she tried on different implant sizers.  We decided that 325 cc implant would work well for her frame and to achieve her aesthetic goals. We had a discussion about implant options and she elected to go with a smooth round silicone implant. I explained that silicone is a more natural feeling implant than saline implants, and also has less risk for rippling and wrinkling of the implant. We discussed the different incision options and I explained that I always use an incision in the breast fold. An advantage of that approach is there is less risk of capsular contracture using the inframammary fold incision. The scar in the inframammary fold also camouflages well, leaving minimal scarring. Her surgery was performed at an outpatient surgery center in Tucson. She had 325 cc smooth round high profile silicone implants placed through an inframammary incision. The implants were placed in a submuscular position using a Keller funnel. She tolerated the surgery well. She was discharged home after a short stay in the recovery room. She is now three months out and loves her results from her breast augmentation.
