This is a 21 year old college student that had come to Rao Plastic Surgery because she was interested in a breast augmentation. She was an A cup and was looking to be a full C cup or a small D cup. During her initial consultation I learned that she had not any prior breast surgery and did not have any family history of breast problems. On exam I did not detect and masses in her breast. We took measurements of her breast to help determine which implant was the best fit for her. She tried on a variety of implant sizers. She liked the appearance of the 350 cc sizers. I explained that because she was less than 22 we would follow the FDA recommendation and use saline implants. As we reviewed her preoperative photos we discussed that she did have asymmetry between her breasts. I explained that all women have some degree of asymmetry. The advantage of using saline implants in her situation is that it would allow us to fill the implants to different volumes in order to address her asymmetry. Her breast augmentation was performed at an outpatient surgery center in Tucson, Arizona. Using an inframammary incision her saline implants were placed in a submuscular pocket. Her right breast implant was filled to 375 cc and her left implant was filled to 310 cc. During surgery we sat her up and she had the best symmetry at those volumes. She was discharged home from the recovery room. Her postoperative recovery was uneventful. She is now three months out from her surgery and she loves her results.
